We aimed north to Mendocino, where it was bright and sunny- a beautiful place indeed. There was no one out surfing and only a few people at the beach. We took the Redwood Highway for a long, long time until we reached Crescent City.
Although we intended to hike before hitting our campground, we ran out of time as we finally got to the Six Rivers National Forest. The sun was setting, and we drove through the woods between enormous Sequoia trees and stumps.
We kept driving for what seemed like forever along the Smith River to find a campground to settle into. We found a spot called Big Flat Campground ($4!) to stay for the evening and enjoyed some dinner as it started to rain outside.
